Tension

I found documenting these moments was an expression of my own curiosity. I didn't know exactly what I was capturing at the time because I was also experiencing what I was documenting. I realise I was exploring the tension between the light-heartedness of these fleeting moments and a looming sense of darkness that came with the expression of this age. The images seem frivolous and unimportant but upon reflection they are powerfully universal in highlighting the manifestations of personal expression and how narrow our attempts to give a convincing portrayal of an inflated persona can be. I ended up with a collection of images that help me understand the culture of teenage party scenes and how they create space for people to explore themselves and learn how to exist with others in this tension.
